Hello all,
My name is Krista and I have wanted to set up a blog for a while but haven't gotten around to making one, so I like this introduction. I hope to incorporate a blog into my classroom at some point. Anyway, I currently teach 9th grade U.S. history. I really enjoy the subject I teach and try my best to reveal the importance of history in each of my studen'ts lives. This summer is busy, besides taking classes I am also getting married and moving. I am working hard to remember to relax :) I enjoy hanging out with my friends and working outside. I look forward to get to know you all.

Hello Krista,
ReplyDeleteWow you have a crazy summer ahead of you, but also so much fun. Make sure you remember to step back and enjoy everything. After all the wedding planning you need to really appreciate the day because it goes so fast.
Do you love teaching U.S. History? History is my minor and I was torn between wanting to teach that subject (specifically U.S. History and teaching elementary ed.). I went with teaching second grade, which I LOVE, but sometimes wonder how I would like teaching just history.

Melanie,
ReplyDeleteI love teaching U.S. History. I think there is so much you can do with the subject. The difficulty however it getting the students to understand why it is important. Many feel as if history has no relation to their current life. I try my best to get them to make the connections to see the impact events have made in their current life.
I did teach English for a year and found that while I love the subject matter, I did not enjoy teaching it. I just figured the two went hand in hand but apparently not. I think you would be happy teaching history because there are always new ideas and concepts being debated upon every year. And best of all, there is always room for opinions and seldom one right answer.
Krista:
ReplyDeleteGood luck with all you have planned for this summer! Are you getting married in August?
Yes I am getting married in August.
